| Here are some things you should do for yourself, to learn, to improve and to promote. To submit work you have done for any of these projects, please email submit@magnusmagazine.co.uk with the title of the project in the subject line. |

Create your own contact book://
Carry around with you a little black book, and any time you see/hear about someone who you might be interested in write them down and any details about them. It is quite common to meet some of these people eventually, and it really helps to break the ice if you know something about them. This industry is all about contacts. |
|
| |
Create an A4 Advertisement for yourself://
How would you like others to see you and your work? If you had to promote yourself quickly what would you use? Having a poster for yourself will teach you about your strengths, and may come in handy too. |
|
| |
Create a business card for yourself://
The world we live in is a little past the business card culture of the '80s, but they can still come in useful. If you are to hand your business card out, make sure it depicts who you and your work are. |
|
| |
Create a banner advertisement for yourself://
The world wide web is the biggest advertising market there is. See if you can subvert this generally boring format and create an advert which really sells you in the most minimal of space. (the banner advert should be 468x68 pixels) |
|
| |
Create a website for yourself://
All creative people should have their own website. How else can you showcase your work. Even by using other showcases like this one, you are limiting your choices on style and space. Make yourself a website unique to you, to impress all comers. |
|
| |
Draw by feel://
Touch a part of your body (don't look) and then draw how it feels. |
|
| |
Switch Hands://
Draw with your non-dominant hand for a day |
|
| |
Mix it up://
Experiment with mark-making and how you approach the paper/canvas. Draw behind your back, with your feet, smudge with your elbow. Play with the act of creativity, rather than what you actually create. |
|
| |
Work quickly://
In an hour, make a sculpture from one of your drawings. Use stuff you find around the house. We suggest a minimum of, if you have them, wire, masking tape, paper and card. |
|
| |
Randomise your materials://
Buy 3 things from a charity shop/market stall or use 3 things you find and transform them into 1 piece with an entirely different use |
|
| |
Start from the beginning://
Imagine if you were wrong about everything about yourself. Now create something in a way which you never usually would |
