Skarr One

What themes run throughout your work? Love, adventure, historical detail

How do you hope your work will affect its audience? I hope my work will inspire my audience to read more about ancient Rome , particularly about the Republic that was established more than 2,000 years ago, when Rome functioned like a true democracy and worked for the people

What sounds influence your work? Not sure; I like classical music and progressive jazz; Beethoven and Miles Davis are my favourites in each genre

What makes you decide to create your work? I'm inspired by the ideas of freedom which existed in ancient times and particularly, the struggles of various peoples during the ancient Roman Republic , which was trying to set up the first global empire in the Mediterranean . I also like to share my knowledge of ancient Roman history and my understanding of the various cultures that existed at the time, apart from Roman culture and traditions.

Where do your talents lie? My talents lie in my ability to describe and envision the past, bring them to life for a modern audience. It is a unique experience, to be able to transport yourself in the past, by merely reading a good story with accurate historical detail that puts you in the scene, so to speak.

What successes have you had so far? My main success so far is getting my first book published, after receiving a ton of rejections. I think I have also established a good reputation at a Roman history site, where I am frequently sought for book reviews.

What was the first creative thing that you ever did? My first creative effort was in middle school, where I made a painting from my imagination and which still hangs on the wall in a school hallway.

Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? No one has formally taught me but I continue to learn every day by chatting with other writers, exchanging ideas with other creative people and interacting with various fellow members at my favourite history site – unrv.com

What makes you creative? I think it is my inner passion and my imagination and my desire to learn that makes me creative

How did you get started? I got started by simply sitting down one day and beginning to put pen on paper. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to make a start and once you begin to write, the ideas will flow out of you, if you are passionate about what you want to write.

What inspires you? A lot of things inspire me – a good painting, a great novel or movie, a story about someone helping another

Who inspires you? I don't think I can name a specific person. However, I have always been inspired by the great, immemorial classics – Homer, Shakespeare, Dickens, Dumas, Scott and a number of other writers whose imaginations have really inspired me to write

What are you trying to achieve? If enough people get to know my book and read it, I would consider that a great achievement. It will also spur me to write and publish other books that I have in mind.

Do you collaborate? I would like to collaborate and have done this on a couple of projects. Unfortunately, both collaborators have run into roadblocks and have been unable to commit the time necessary to complete these projects.

Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? I don't think I would ever want to be anything other than a writer. It provides a deep inner satisfaction by itself.

Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? I don't think my answer changes and I would still want to be what I am – a writer

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen / heard / experienced? I think I have experienced a lot of amazing things and I am at a loss to single out a particular one.

What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? I think the most important thing in life is having integrity and being able to lead an honest life, where you are true to yourself and to the others who have placed their trust in you.

Who/what is your nemesis and why? I don't think I really believe in the concept of ‘nemesis' and find it self-defeating to even give this question any serious consideration.
