How do you hope your work will affect its audience? I hope that everything I write will entertain, but also that it will make the reader think a little.
What sounds influence your work? When I write I sometimes play Ry Cooder's soundtrack to the film Paris, Texas; songs with lyrics just tend to distract me. Otherwise, I prefer silence.
What makes you decide to create your work? I can't imagine not writing.
Where do your talents lie? At the ends of my fingers.
Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? Not formally, but every book I read teaches me a little bit more about writing.
What inspires you? Could be absolutely anything – conversations, songs, philosophies, paintings, news items…anything that piques my interest.
Who inspires you? Gabriel García Márquez, Thomas Pynchon, David Mitchell, Salman Rushdie, Magnus Mills…
Do you collaborate? I haven't, but I'd be very interested to give it a try.
Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? A writer.
Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? A writer who gets paid enough to live on.
What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? The freedom to live it as I see fit.
Who/what is your nemesis and why? My job, as it takes up far too much of the time I'd rather be spending writing.
