What themes run throughout your work? I use strong line and marks throughout my work. A lot of it is very textural also but that varys from piece to piece.
How do you hope your work will affect its audience? I just hope they find them attractive and exciting images to look at.
What sounds influence your work? Well I listen to music while drawing and computering my images which helps me focus and put my all into them.
What makes you decide to create your work? For personal pieces i am usually influenced by what i see when im out and about. But sometimes i will be driven to make an image from a picture ive seen, book ive read, film ive watched and sometimes an idea will just pop into my head.
What successes have you had so far? Ive done promo material for major exhibitons in the midlands and regular spot illustrations for Future Snowboarding Magazine.
What was the first creative thing that you ever did? I drew a picture of a flower in primary school which was framed and put in the staff room :)
Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? Many many people. My peers, my tutors, my favourite illustrators, and anyone thats ever given me constructive criticism or praise.
How did you get started? Art was always a strong point for me from an early age. Drawing was all i ever really did, i drew planes, cars, bikes. things with engines and machines. I was lucky enough to have a great art department at my secondary school so i spent a lot of time there where i painted mainly abstract pieces or still life. It was there i had my first taste of digital manipulation. It was pretty basic but it was fun experimenting scanning in marks and textures and playing with them on screen. I went to uni out of sixth form and did animation but it didnt work out and i left. I nearly joined the RAF but a friend told me about a course at my local college so in the end i went there and this was where i was introduced to the wonder of photoshop. I was in my elemant and from there i went to uni and did illustration and realised there was no other path for me. This is what i was meant to do, its what i love doing.
What inspires you? Buildings, cafes, machines, citys, villages, history, nature, people.
Who inspires you? Josh Cochran, Frank Stockton, Jillian Tamaki, Tomer Hanuka, Olivier Kugler.
What do you do when you are suffering from creative block? Go for a walk, not think about creative things for a while, talk to someone else, look at my favourite illustrators.
What are you trying to achieve? To be able to make a living from creating images is my dream. Not get rich off it just make a living. But even if i couldnt it wouldnt stop me making images.
Do you collaborate? I would jump at the chance to collaborate.
Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? An illustrator......or race driver.
Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? An illustrator with steady commisions.
Who/what is your nemesis and why? Myself. Because i worry way too much and get stressed by little things. And i want everything now and not have to wait.
