Mr Hues

What themes run throughout your work? Love, beauty and truth.

How do you hope your work will affect its audience? I trust my work affects my audience I don’t hope but since I never consider my audience when I am making my work this is a moot point.

What sounds influence your work? The sound of smiles, purrs, growls and whimpers.

What makes you decide to create your work? I record my experience. It is my duty to do so. That is what I chose to do.

Where do your talents lie? Next to me in bed or sometimes at my feet.

What successes have you had so far? I am blessed with all I require to continue making work.

What was the first creative thing that you ever did? I don’t remember.

Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? Yes, many people. I am always open to new lessons.

What makes you creative? My genes and my conditioning make me creative. (With respect to Niche) Creativity is a human activity. We are each creating ourselves. This is our greatest masterwork.

How did you get started? I decided to be an artist.

What inspires you? I am constantly inspired by the beauty of the world around me.

Who inspires you? The people around me who I work with and the great teachers that have gone before us.

What do you do when you are suffering from creative block? I paint. The creative block is a fiction, a myth. Those who suffer thus have still not accepted the way things are. We are not subject to our emotions nor are we at the whim of exterior events. We have power to decide what we do in each precious moment of the now. A block is a refusal to see that all we have is the now. It is a dwelling in the past or a fear of the future, both of which are not real. The past is memory and the future a fiction.

What are you trying to achieve? I have no attachment to outcomes. I have no desire to achieve anything. There is a caveat to this statement however, I would be happy to leave a legacy that inspires others to join me on the path to enlightenment.

Do you collaborate? Every painting is collaboration between me and the subject.

Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? I want for nothing. I am already becoming myself.

Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? I want for nothing. I refer you to “The Gift: Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World” ~ Lewis Hyde

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen / heard / experienced? The answer to this question is far too explicit to share here…

What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? Becoming who you are.

Who/what is your nemesis and why? I pay no heed to the things that oppose me.

Artist Statement: All of my faces are beautiful and all of my faces are me.
