Francois Olivier

What themes run throughout your work? Freedom (Most importantly), Funky, retro, classy and the ellements. I also like fine details.

How do you hope your work will affect its audience? Well, I always say that art doesn't have meaning... It takes on meaning as time goes by, as stuff happens in your life. We all percieve happenings in a different way and therefore My work is produced with the soul purpose of affecting people in their own way. you can take what you want out of it. Hopefully my work will effect people in ways far beyons the eyes. in dimentions that can only be felt deep inside.

What sounds influence your work? It's not so much sounds as it is the feeling of freedom. my workplace is open plan and therefore it could include natural sounds.

What makes you decide to create your work? Creativity mostly. Or even happenings and experiences in my life. my names I give to my artworks as I would like to call them are descriptive in a very abstract way... for instace... Fighting the light: It means that even in the darkest times people tend to be to proud and instead of imbracing the light (Poeple wanting to help you) they fight it.

Where do your talents lie? Everywhere. he he. I do a bit of everything for example: Photoraphy, graphic design, singing, dancing, modeling, dj, writing, drama exc. But if I must choose... it would be photography. It's always been a passion of mine. Only in 2006 did I start to do photography as a hobby. in 2008 I started to take it seriously.

What successes have you had so far? I think that y success can be measured in lots of ways... my growth as a person and artist and then the awesome experiences. I've done quite a couple of famous SA artists photo's and cd covers. As well as some of my works being published in a few SA mags and newspapers. I've also done quite a couple of weddings and people just can't get enough of our photos. It's an awesome feeling when people phone you and tell you that they want you to be the one to take their special days photos. Other people fly me down just to take their fuctions photos and to take pictures of their products and design their pamflets.

What was the first creative thing that you ever did? I wrote my mother a song... more like busking. he eh My mother gave art classes and my granny was a music teacher.

Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? No, not really. got some tips, but in the end It's all about playing around and seeing what works for you!

What makes you creative? People seeing my work and appretiating it, that inspires me to become creative. other then that... Seeing stuff that blows your mind away.

How did you get started? I gave moddeling classes for a couple of years and when they where looking for someone to take the models portfolios, I said i could do it. and thats it...

What inspires you? Knowing that i grown every day and that people enjoy looking at my work

Who inspires you? My family and friends. Sacha Waldman & Lara Jade

What do you do when you are suffering from creative block? I believe you suffer from creative block when you think to hard about something... I don't get it. Just relax and it will fall into place by itself.

What are you trying to achieve? In 5 years Iam going to be South Africa's est photographer and in 10 years... I am going to be the best in the World... This may sound vain but it isn't. I just believe in my work.

Do you collaborate? Yes, With people I believe in like one of my dearest friends and also a finominal photographer Joffre Calitz

Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? Nothing else... the worlds best photographer.

Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? Nothing else... the worlds best photosgrapher

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen / heard / experienced? Well, Just being able to see is an experience on it's own. A wasp catching a spider is just one of them.

What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? If you are a photographer, people should pic you for your style and not for you to fit into a certain style. on the other hand your family and friends. Love, Honesty and just living your dreams.

Who/what is your nemesis and why? Nope, sorry, I don't have something like that. Everyone is different and should be treated that way. My theory is that you put your soul into everything you do... therefore everyones work says something else, it even has a different feeling. there will always be someone better then you. just learning to embrace that and still giving your best... that's the problem poeple need to face.
