Didi Bjornerud

What themes run throughout your work? To most of my designs there lies a subtle darkness. I like to twist my stories and I often use dark colours and abstract arrangements. I draw a lot of inspiration from nature and dreams.

Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? I did my bachelor degree at Central St Martins where I learnt a lot, but I feel I am making more progress now as I am more comfortable with my own style and I don’t necessarily have to live up to others idea of what is right or wrong.

What makes you creative? Techno or other types of dance music always gets my mind going.

Who inspires you? Other artists I like

What do you do when you are suffering from creative block? I stick my headphones on and go for long walks outside. I always have a notebook with me everywhere I go to sketch down an idea.

What are you trying to achieve? To create something weirdly beautiful and different. Hopefully others will like my designs as well so I can make a living out of it one day.

Do you collaborate? I recently did a very exciting collaboration with Fashion designer Deborah Henning where I created all the prints for her spring/summer ’09 collection. It can be viewed on my website. I am also in the planning of a very exciting collaboration with another great graphic designer Sam Chamberlain.

What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? The ability to think creative. In any circumstances, it makes life much more fun.
