This piece is called “MOONSET OVER PACIFIC STORM”, No.56 and is also known as “STORMY MOTHER EARTH, WORRIED MOON”. It is 26.5’’ x 34’’ and was created using watercolours, pastels and charcoal. It’s based on a picture taken by the crew of the COLOMBIA space shuttle, and this is my impressionist view of that photo.
Mother Earth is seen in this painting lying down as a storm, with the epicentre being her head. She is pointing a finger, telling the Moon to hush and not worry as it leaves her in a stormy mood for twelve hours. The idea represents the unique relationship the two share with each other, as they have been soulmates since their creation. The Moon also being aware of its own influence on the tides of the Earth, wondering if its anything he has done to bring this storm about.
